Holly Hernandez is originally from Los Angeles, California and relocated with her husband and two children to Florida in 2004. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Child Development in 1997 and a master’s degree in Recreation Administration in 2005. She has been in education for seventeen years, twelve of them as a first-grade teacher. During her time in the classroom, she also became a member of the school leadership team, eventually leading her to make the leap to step out of the classroom to become an Instructional Coach full time.

As an instructional coach she has many roles and responsibilities. These include training and supporting new teachers, planning for, and supporting school initiatives, working with the school leadership team to support their growth, and supporting data chats with teachers and students to ensure goals are clear and steps to reach those goals are understood. She also supports the intervention process for all students to ensure that teachers have a clear path to getting the support they need and a clear picture of their role within that process.

Her philosophy is that children are whole people. While education is vitally important to their success, interpersonal skills and emotional health are equally important. For this reason, she supports the concepts of making learning fun and engaging, capitalizing on opportunities to build community within classrooms and throughout the school, and making time for teachable moments whether they are related to education or interpersonal relationships.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and her adorable dog, reading, volunteering at her church, traveling, and trying new and interesting foods.
